Dream It & Believe It & Appreciate It!!

This month, in honor of Mother’s Day, we look at the Power of Appreciation.

It’s easy to get caught up in all the things we want and the things we wish could be different about our lives, but how much time do we take to be grateful for things we already have? Staying in touch with our dreams allows us to creatively explore the opportunities that arise to get us there, while our appreciation for what we have keeps us happy today as we move toward our dreams for the future. Appreciation and gratitude actually have an affect on our emotional balance, in addition to the wonderful effect they have on others.

Since Mother’s Day is coming up, we want to ask you to think about your mother for a minute. What are the first thoughts that come to mind? Are you focusing on the things that are great about your mother or the things that you wish were different? Do something to show your appreciation this Mother’s Day by giving something from your heart. Maybe a poem, a letter, or a story, or make her something you know she will love. And, try to make a habit of being appreciative every day.

While it’s good to appreciate other people in your life, it’s also important to appreciate yourself, who you are and what you do. What have you done lately that you’re proud of? What were you successful at today? Choose a partner, maybe a parent, sibling, or friend, and every night for the next week, before you go to bed, let each other know the answers to these questions:

How did you live your life today that made you feel good about yourself?

What did you appreciate most today about the three most important people in your life?

What are you most looking forward to tomorrow?

What’s one step you can take this week toward your dream?

What change do you notice in your body when you think about appreciating what you have instead of complaining about what you don’t?

Tell us what you appreciate and dream about! Place it in an envelope, address it to North Star Family Matters 698 E. Promontory Rd. Shelton, WA 98584, stick a stamp on it, and send it to us! (Or, if you prefer, e-mail it to us at dreams@northstarfamilymatters.com.)
