Dear Baby … sometimes I forget that parenting can be stressful. I slip into the everyday routine and all seems fine until we hit some bumps in the road. It could be a sleepless night because you are cutting teeth, which leads to an off day because neither of us are rested. Through the hours, I might slip from relaxation into another state. If I pay attention, I might notice I get angry quicker, my neck and shoulders feel tighter, I might have a headache or be turning to food to cope. These are all symptoms of stress. When I can diagnose the problem, I don’t have to live through the symptoms. I can treat it immediately by finding time to relax, breathe deeply, and re-center myself. Today, I commit to being aware of my stress symptoms and reacting quickly when they start to happen.
