Dreaming Big
Allie the Cat was carefully snipping and clipping her way through a pile of magazines. She’d collected every last one she could find around her cozy cottage, and was working her way through, cutting out her favorite pictures. She also had a box of markers sitting on the table and from her craft box, she’d pulled the biggest piece of poster board she could find. The giant paper was in her favorite color, purple, and she knew it would make the perfect background for her project.
As she hummed a song and worked away, Allie heard a knock on the door. Dropping her scissors on top of the pile, she went to answer it. Standing out in the cold was her pal Ratta Tat the rapping Rat. Allie quickly invited him in.
“So what’s up, Allie?” Ratta Tat asked. “Looks like you’re working on something big! Why are you cutting up all those magazines?”
A slow smile spread across Allie’s face and her whiskers turned up. “I’m making a dream board. You take a piece of poster board or whatever you can find, then fill it with cut out pictures and drawings of your dreams.”
“You mean, like what you dreamed about last night?” Ratta Tat said.
Allie chuckled. “No, not those kinds of dreams. This is for the dreams you have when you are awake. You know, the dreams you have of your future. Because when you focus your attention on what you want to happen in your life, then you can begin to turn your dreams into reality.”
Allie flipped through a magazine until she found a picture of a bike and showed it to Ratta Tat. She told him she’d always wanted a bike so this picture was definitely going on her dream board. After she cut it out and glued it on her poster board she grabbed a marker and drew a box with a math problem inside.
“Two plus two equals four. What’s that for?” Ratta Tat wanted to know.
“This is for my Math class,” Allie said. Then she took a red marker and wrote a big “A” at the top of the box. “I really want a good grade this year! When I’m all finished with this, I’m going to hang it on the door, so every time I come and go, I can look at it and focus my attention on what I’d like to see in my life. That’s the beginning of making it happen!”
Ratta Tat started tapping his paw to the beat and after a minute, started rapping for Allie:
Pictures, drawings, things you like,
An “A” in Math and a bike.
Plan it out and make it clear,
Get just what you want this year!
Allie grinned and said, “I think you’ve got it down, Ratta Tat! Want to make a dream board of your own?”
